I have an M&W starter reduction on my M, and it works great. Dad put it on back about 1953. The idea is to reduce the torque the starter must generate to turn the engine over, which will reduce cranking speed. Cranking speed doesn't matter - if it fires it will go. Reduced required torque means less current draw which increases the voltage available to the coil. If you have a magneto, that doesn't matter - the impulse will take care of things. Bruce
