340 block (135 cu in) is different bolt pattern and block configuration than the 240 (123 cu in). You can use the 404 block (135 cu in) as it is the same bell housing bolt pattern as the 240. Although the 340 and 404 both had 135 Cu in engines, they had different blocks and will not interchange.
