The axel will come out of without removing the axel housing. Just pull the piece that is on the outer end of the axel and the bolt and washer that holds the inside end of the axel at the bull gear. The wheel will need to be removed too. The axel should push out of the bull gear. It's been some time since I did that procedure but I think that's all there is to it. Hope this helps, Bob
