Fellas, I gotta lot of questions- heres the deal. Trying to get ready for winter (Nebraska winter..70 one day -30 windchill the next). I Have 49 M, and I want it to push snow if we ever get some, but mostly it will just set until spring or nice winter days. What should I do to have it in good shape.I can't spend a whole lot of money right now and I really only have this weekend to work on it. So this is what I'm dealing with right now. Gas leak- It seams to drip out somewhere between the on/off valve and the carb. On one day it just kinda ran out of the carb -so i turn the gas off and started tractor, then turned the gas on and it has never run out the carb since. Mostly, it just kinda drips from the base of the sediment bowl and the on/off switch(I changed rubber inside and cleaned the bowl-still drips) . Question....Do I want this tank full of gas for the winter or just add gas as i need it? If I need gas in it all winter I will need to fix the line- any quick solutions? Radiator- It sometimes runs out the top but never much. I bought a new radiator cap and it ran out worse so I put the old one back on and it really doesn't even have a rubber deal. Does this need a 50/50 mix for winter or straight antifreeze. How much does it take? do I need to flush this and if so any tips are appreciated because I've never done it before.
The tractor has an electric hook up that can be pluged in.. I don't have clue if it works and it looks pretty old. I assume this helps it start when its cold. Any pointers? Also, this tractor has an F-10 loader with not very much hydraulic fluid any particular fluid recommended or things I should do with the loader for the winter? What about keeping the battery lively? I know I've asked alot but any pointers or direction is really appreciated or any other things I'm not think about or just don't know. Thank you, Scott

Talk of the Town: The Saga of Grandpa's Tractor - by The following saga is from the Tractor Talk Discussion Forum. Someone. The saga starts with the following message: Hey guys I have a decision to make. I know what you all will probably suggest and it will probably agree with me way down inside, but here it is. I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction,
