You could probably just put a set of new rings in it if there's no grooves worn into the cylinder walls. You may have a broken ring and you will need a ridge reamer to cut away the ridge so you don't damage the pistons. The best way to check for wear is to measure the cylinders. You should have a shop manual that covers that 153 engine. The ring gap on a new ring will also determine if the cylinders are worn too much. My IH manual doesn't cover the 504, but it does list the ring gap for Farmall H with the C152 engine and the ring gap should be .007" to .017" on a new ring. You need close bearing clearances too and that includes cam bearings for good oil pressure. New gears in the oil pump if worn severely too. I do have a sketch of that oil pump listing the parts. If you're in doubt about the wear have someone measure the cylinders. You may need new piston pins and bushings since they can cause noise with new rings.
