verdict on detergent oil

OK guys...what's the verdict on detergent oil in the old tractors? I heard both good and bad from A TO Z why and why not. How about running it for say a week or less, changing it after it has cleaned the engine, repeat a few times until all the crap has been "washed out"??? I would think the sludge would get trapped in the filter and the oil pump screen would catch some too, the rest would come out at the oil change. After a while the engine would be cleaner. I'm running 10/30 in her now with no problems yet and when I checked the oil it's pretty darn clean so if the engine was all slugdged up you would think it would show up in the new oil??
