I have heard from some of the old time dealers that when the 50's came out that they painted and added decals to the 00 series to make it look the same. So the statement that your 400 came from the factory that way is correct. But you very well could have bought it from the dealer brand new painted the same as a 450. Don't want to burst any bubles, that is how some 300 and 400 were bought new painted like 350's and 450's.
