The other guys below are on track! Problem is backfeed current thru the resistor after you open the ignition switch is sufficient to fire the (more efficient) electronic ignition. Easiest solution is to stick a 1N4004 or similar diode in series with the resistor. (Suggest you leave the resistor in place to limit current and save the diode in the unlikely event of a short circuit). Wire the diode with the banded end is toward the alternator #1 terminal and your problem will be solved!
