The H housing does work, long as I used the shim behind the bearing. I used brass, so it can have something that gives just a little for breaking it in. The shim fits tightly inside the H bearing housing, and moves the bearing forward about .210. The pinion shaft, no matter what, rides in this location, The pilot, or thrust bearing up front is still deep inside the constant mesh gear, and when installed, does not feel any different than when the H pinion was in it. The snap clip will keep it from moving forwards, and the brass shim will keep it from moving back. Hopefully,,,,,,,,,, LOL. The reason I did this swap is to take the tractor out of 4th gear while pulling, back to 3rd. A bit heavier looking gear set, and still be as fast as 4th. Always thought that this tractor was between gears in 3rd, and 4th, could handle alot more in 3rd. 4th gear,, well,, it will run, but still not working the engine the way I am hoping this will do by this swap. My old 4th, teeth was worn so sharp, it would kick out of gear, cause it was so tapered on one side of the gear. I did manage to find the perfect, "used" gear set to put in, just a little wear on 2nd and 3rd, but nothing to worry about, 4th was perfect. So, Im a step closer to getting it back together. I found, I like doing transmission work in the letter series Farmall's. Once they come apart, makes it alot easier to put back together! On the earlier post,, I just used the W4 pinion, and ring gear, used the H bearing cages,, when I got the gear set, I could have got them, but, I told him to keep what was left, Ill make it work...??
