Rob, I know nothing about your tractor, but there is absolutely no possible way you can be "off 180 degrees" because 180 degrees out is the same as dead on, since the crank has to turn twice for every one reveloution of the camshaft. Are you sure that the book doesn't say #4 cylinder? Exhaust valve just closing and the intake valve just opening means that the piston is on the intake stroke, not the power or firing stroke. So, as cylinder #4 is on the intake stroke, cylinder #1 should be on the power or ignition stroke. If the book indeed has you timing the thing on the intake stroke, I think you are on the wrong stroke of the wrong cylinder. See what I mean? Allan
