On the IH repalcement engine,maybe heads too,the engine part number was ground off and stamped.I cant recall why but it seems it was because the engine could be used for several different applications and received and new number,or it was because the engine was nt being used in anything being made at the time or something like that.I have two Ms with repalcement engines,and both have the numbers ground off and stamped on both the block,havent really paid much attetion to it on the head so it may be the same way.
