656D replacing hydraulic fluids

I read the archives and the consensus is that Hytran is the way to
go on replacement hydraulic fluid for a Farmall 656D. I'm going
to the CaseIH dealer to get a load.

Someone mentioned in the archives that the TA will not function
with regular gear oil - anyone know why? The reason I ask is
because I have TA problems and the fluids have some water
contamination.....I guess I'm dreaming that somehow the fluid
change is going to make my TA function and I am going to get
out of a split ;-)

No harm in dreaming....
