I converted a 43 "H" and a 53 Super "A" to 12 volts by installing a 12V regulator with the 6V gen. I am using a 12V coil. Measured Gen out-put is 13.89 to 14.39V at coming in speed. The "H" was converted in 1978, I have broken two bendix springs since installation. I had the "A" starter field changed to 12V to lessen the engaging impact force and lessen the potential for broken springs. The 6V gen can be converted to 12V, but the knowledge at the local auto electric shop suggested that it would be an unnecessary expense in that the 6V gen. was fully capable of supplying 12V. No hood clearance problems, no mounting bracket problems, works well.
