David: Squealing brakes can be caused by a number of items; poor quality brake band lining will do it, if the old brakes had oil, grease or other crud and drums didn't get throughly cleaned and some will just squeal until they get worn to shape of drum. Trucks will often do this and usually the cause is an oil seal allowing oil to leak on brakes.

Three things you can do are, make sure you have no oil leaks, clean brake parts and use of the brakes. By use of brakes, I suggest time will heal. Those brakes should also be adjusted so pedal only has about 2" free travel.
