Your wire that was found in your water jacket was used either to stiffen or support the sand core prior to casting. To explain further > you have the main mold in sand casting but to create internal details you need to utilize sand cores.these are smaller more detailed units of sand that have all the internal features you want to create . Sometimes these are long and need stiffening or need to be supported . Wire's a cheap fix than reworking the pattern , which sometimes can't be done. Its also possible it was from the cleaning process but more likely from the cores. Hope this helps Ed
