Lift all pump

I have a 48 farmall H, that the lift all pump input shaft seal is leaking. I have a new seal and the pump is apart except for the driving gear is still on the shaft that comes through the front cover.I can see that the shaft is keyed. Can I just press the shaft out or will the key damage the cover by doing this. Thanks.
