Thanks for the info. The SM is new (to me) and I haven't gotten into rehab yet - mostly in the assessment/playing phase. I know the starter motor was replaced in '92, and the negative cable from the bat to starter switch is too small - it get's warm after cranking, which isn't cool with only 6 volts to start with. I also don't know how old the commercial battery is that is in it. All to be determined, but I can look at the brushes on the starter easy enough.
