Try a quick fix first, remove the fuel line at the inlet to the carb. and spray some carb cleaner in there. If your carb has a drain plug in the bottom, remove it, and spray the carb cleaner until it runs out the drain hole, and then put everything back together again and give it a try. I'm guessing that the needle valve got a speck of rust or maybe even some gummy gas in it and it simply stuck. You might want to also completely drain the gas tank, clean the sediment bowl, and put fresh gas back in.
