The transmission is NOT synchronized. You need to push the clutch, stop the tractor, and WAIT for the transmission to stop spinning before you shift. ANY grinding is bad. As for the PTO lever, I don't know where it is. You should be able to figure it out quite easily. There will be linkages coming from the PTO on the rear of the tractor. Follow them. They will lead to a lever. Make sure everyone is clear of the PTO and any attached implements, then GENTLY and SLOWLY pull the lever.
