You mean that IH made blocks for both new tractors and power units, each with different part numbers, and different serial prefixes. Then for replacement there was only one block but as a separate procedure they ground off the part number of the block for the power units AND the tractors, drilled the dipstick and fuel pump holes, and then stamped a new part number? That way they would only need to inventory one set of replacement blocks for everything, and simply cover the holes on the tractor models.
