REMOVING SPINDLES

I have a 1953 Super C with a wide frontend. There were several welds on it plus the left front spindle tube (lack of another name to call it...the tube that the spindle is in)is broke completely off.
I was furtunate in locating a good used one, but I have to remove the spindle from my existing frontend and put them in my new one. I"m have a hard time removing them...is there a trick or do I just have to "drive" them out with block and hammer? I don"t want to destroy them.
