dont think it would be a valve or anything on top of a piston.if it was you would be able to roll the engine back till you came to the top of the stroke again.i suspect it may be something in the timing gears or in the drive to the distributor.maybe some of the other guys would have an idea.most of my experience is on truck diesel.i would start by pulling the oil pan and valve cover then go from there.just my guess.let us know when you find the problem
