That plug could be the problem. But if the worm gear/shaft has pushed it out it sounds like there's another problem. Can't remember how much clearance there is between plug and shaft, not much though. Could the thrust bearings inside steering column be worn causing too much up & down travel in shaft? Turn str. wheel and take notice of the amount of up & down movement- it should be barely noticeable. Let us know what you find!
