If the gear noise came all of a sudden it could be that the splines are shot on the pto drive gear. This is splined to the pressure plate and drives the MCV pump and pto. Symtoms are little or no steering, brakes, TA, and pto. You can take the bottom cover off and look up inside the bellhousing to see (or hear) if that is the problem. As for the MCV pump there is only one pump available now to put back in that I'm aware of. One has been discontinued.
