Shaggy: I'd almost bet your problems are either too small cable, poor post connection or poor ground, and maybe all three. For 6 volt systems, use 1 gauge wire, soldered on ends. Another item I've done with my offsets, is run my ground strap to one of the bolts that hold transmission top. I find I get much better ground going right to cast for my ground. I changed the first one about 10 years ago, and have had lot less problem. You also mentioned changing starters and was somewhat better. Have a good look at your starter drive, it can take a lot of juice if in bad condition.
