You could also install a high amerage diode inline with it.. but then that makes a small forward voltage drop.. not a real big deal on a tractor though. Most junkyards have 'tested' delco 10-si alternators for 25 bucks.. and I've seen reman's from auto zone for 19.99.. by telling them you have a 67 chevy truck.

These are 3 wire jobs.. bit stud to battery ( or ammeter.. etc.. ) p1 to switched excite.. like an accy tab inthe ignition.. or a dioded off a 2 pole ignition.. or at worst.. and 'idiot' lite.. ( marker lamp). P2 is remote sense. Ideally this is hooked up to the battery to make up for voltage drop in the lines between the alternator and the battery, like you might see in an automobile.. however on a tractor.. it is acceptable to simply jump p2 down to the charging stud.
