Robby: I have never owned a 310 or 358 German, 360 or 312 US engine. I have operated the 766 and also several 886. One of the 886 had a 360 engine while others had 358 engine. The 360 has way better lugging power than the 358. I once asked an IH dealer why they changed from 360 to 358 in the 886. He said," I have been wondering that one myself for a long long time. In my opinion it was the straw that broke the camel's back." This dealer was in dairy country, lot of 50 to 60 cow herds and farmers were buying the 886 for forage harvester duty. He had sold about 8 of these the first year equiped with 360. The reputation sold dozens more for him. Problem was the rest of them came with 358 engine. Just another IH blunder. If you go back to that area today, you will not find a CaseIH dealer and very few 886. The barnyards of those same farmers are full of green tractors. That in itself says a lot.
