Jim: Don't rule out the fact you may need heat. I removed the front end from a tractor once, we had the center tube red hot before it let go. Several bystander, advisors suggested we destroyed the center tube and it would never stand up. That was 14 years ago and tractor has had mid mount cultivators in summer and a snow blade in winter, and still going. By the way I did tell my advisors, it was that or go for another center tube anyhow. When you get it apart, as Allan said clean it up, and spray paint all contact surfaces with graphite. With graphite, in 25 years they will slide like a glove. Been there and done that.
