Hi Red, What is your voltage reading? Normally at full load, the regulator will hold the voltage back somewhere in the 16 to 16.5 volt range. If it is pushing up there towards 18 volts, you've got a short in or at the regulator. This can sometimes happen if the builder didn't place the insulated screws in at the correct locations when installing the regulator. Also, how good are your batteries? Are they up to full charge? That regulator is going to push full bore 'til they are full. Alternators, when working hard, do run hot. Tryin' to help, Allan
