My son & I just took the steering wheel off a 1940 "H" that was original. Used a torch to heat and an air hammer with a flat end punch (1/2"diameter) to push it off. Polished the shaft after it cooled and the new wheel went right on. Be sure to rethread the end of the shaft so the nut is holding the wheel center, not just locking up on buggered threads. 3/4" fine thread size.
I made a new slim profile nut by grinding a thick one to size and rethreading it also.
