If you find the sediment bowl full of water, always take a look at the seal on and drainage around the gas cap. That water is getting in the gas tank somehow. It doesn"t do the tank a bit of good, and rusted tanks are a pain in the butt.

As a stop-gap the same trick you use on the exhaust stack can work...put a tin can over it, so long as it isn"t somehow getting a puddle around it. That will just seep in regardless.
