K B: I don't know if the carb is exactly the same, but it certainly will not improve effeiency. 300's were a great old power source but certainly not fuel efficient power. On a 9' haybine my 300 would burn 3 Can. gallons per hour, whereas 560D and 656D would do the same haybine on very close to a Can. gallon per hour. This is precisely why you see so many gas tractors of that era around in very good condition for their age, the diesels that replaced them were fuel efficient and soon took over the workload. As much as we love to hate them, the 300 was still a good old tractor. In cold weather, it would start when nothing else would. My 300 still holds the record on my farm for having baled the most hay in a day (square bales). It stayed around for 35 years from new. It is still going and on its 6th set of pistons and sleeves. The current owner uses it to do his yard work and like you thinks it hard on gas.
