51 M heating up

I have a 51 M that I was using to cut hay with a 9' JD 1219 haybine. After about a half hour the temp gauge rose up between "RUN" and "HOT". I just put a new radiator in and 6 gallons of new coolant in. Is there a t-stat that might not be opening? I thought that the haybine was too much for for the M but it did the same thing when I was raking hay. Any help appreciated.
