Mags were better for hand cranking. Kick backs more likely with distributor (points open and close because of engine rocking and you got spark again with a distributor, unlike a mag witch takes another engine stroke to get spark again after the spark is released). With battery start on the H, not having the mag was not really that big of deal. Probably got switched over when owner had trouble with mag and it was cheaper to just put on the distributor. Distributor was easier to work on to boot.
