Thanks for the quick reply.
From the inside out:
There's the body of the PTO unit, then a gasket, then a metal plate maybe 3/16 thick, and the bearing is flush with the outer edge of that. (I didn't remove that.) Then another gasket, then the end plate I have before me.
Within that end plate, from inside out, I see a metal cup, then the seal, (whose rubber is so worn the spring is about to fall out), (but maybe that inner metal is PART of the seal), then a metal spacer(?) about 1/8 thick, then what appears to be a felt(?) ring, then the outer cup.
Until I pop something loose, I can't tell what is what.
And the new seal I got from Case-IH looks dramatically different, though the inner and outer diameters look right.
Moreover, there's a pulley spacer(?) that rides over the splines, and the seal actually rides on THAT, rather that the shaft itself. I can slide that spacer in and out. The seal actually doesn't ride on the SHAFT.
Man, I'm confused. Just for starters, does one remove the seal from inside the end plate, or the outside?
