Yes the steering shaft has to be removed. Unscrew the large plug at the top of the upper bolster. Loosen the clamp at the u-joint by the gauges and screw the shaft out through the front of the upper bolster. Disconnect the upper radiator support bar and upper radiator hose. Loosen the clamps on the bottom radiator hose. Take the fan shroud off. Remove the cotter keys and castellated nuts from the two studs in the bottom of the radiator that go through the base of the bolster. Pull the radiator up and away from the fan blade. Can't recommend strongly enough that you invest in a service manual!!! A Parts manual is just as valuable as well as an Operators Manual.
