Remember that IH upgraded tractors by serial number, not by year. The post by "For What It's Worth" indicates that the serial number break for Farmall plant Super M's occurred after about 4 months (approx) of 1953 production, Louisville also produced some Stage 1's in 1953. To moderate my response to Bob M, below, somewhat--During the "transition" period from one model to another some weird things happened, so it is possible for a few tractors to have the battery under the seat AND a belly pump, I suppose. It would be impossible to have FACTORY live hydraulics and the battery under the gas tank, however.
