Carl: You really don't describe exactly what you are doing. Are you trying to speed shift on the go? Or does this happen also when you stop and shift gears? Remember your Farmall is a straight cog transmission without synchromesh, so shifting on the go requires a bit of skill. If input and out put shafts aren't turning same speed the gears are going to grind. Only one option adjust your throttle to match the gear you are going to and double clutch. If you can master that one on a tractor you are a smart as well as agile man.
