The 3488 was a hydro...not a gear drive tractor. The 3688 was the gear drive version. The 30 series (3088, 3288, and 3688) had basically the same transmission as the former 66 and 86 series tractors. The only difference is that the TA lever was eliminated and instead the TA was electrically actuated by moving the gear shift lever from side to side. The 50 series (5088, 5288, and 5488) were an all new transmission with 18 speeds. There were three ranges with six gears in each range. You were able to powershift from 1 to 2, 3 to 4, and 5 to 6.
