I thought maybe IH switched engines part way through a year. There's another website you can get tractor value. It gives an option for year and then gives you a list of engines to choose before it gives a tractor value. For a 1966 706 it only has the D-310 and a choice for a gas engine.

The problem I was having is that a friend has a 1966 706 with a D-282 not the 310. It also has the clamshell fenders which I didn't think was normal.
