There could be a reason it didn't have any oil in the back end.... Noises from the gearbox are usually bad bearings or gears. If the noise is just a bad bearing, it is not that hard to fix. I put all new bearings and seals in my H in under a week. Re-replacing the pilot bearing took less than a day. A bad gear, is more expensive and harder to get. If you make the effort to fix it, people on this forum will offer advice on repairs and/or parts.
