Hooking up battery backwards

I see from time to time about this but no definative answer.Just got Super M home and discovered the battery reversed by previous owner .He just put the battery in before I bought it .It was under seat so didn't see it .First noticed it when switch pulled on amp. guage showed charge.I have heard everthing from fried regulator to burnt wires .everything seems OK now .???What dire things can I expect.
