Slappy - For years I kept a tube of IHC magneto grease in my toolbox. It seemed no different than regular gun grease except lighter in color and perhaps a bit stiffer. Unfortunately it was lost in a tragic shop accident (got run over by my kid's Crown Vic).
Anyway I have since substituted white Lubriplate, snowmobile grease, Silglide and plain old Mobil gun grease in magnetos, distributors, speedo cables, etc.
Far as I can tell all work just fine. The Silglide however seems closest to the original IHC mag grease in color/consistency. It's also supposed to be more water resistant than regular grease.
