super a oil pan

I'm stripping this 1954 super a down to ground zero to restore and the oil pan doesn't want to budge. it looks like there is a retaining plate in two pieces around the flange. may have been cut previously. is that what is holding it on, i can't see that well and not much else is any good either at this present old age but i don't want to give up. i don't want to damage something for which i can't replace, i'm sure this is a simple procedure but i would appreciate someone taking a minute to respond. ovil in ocala, florida
