Slappy: Your responce from 42FarmallH is right. Hy tran just entered the picture as a new product, somewhere around mid to latter part of the 1950's. Any manuals prior to that introduction that say touch controll moved to Hy tran. IH put out bulitens on that at the time. In fact I remember they advised everyone to make notes in their manual. Most farmers of the day didn't think these tractors would out last them, so they just made a mental note. Afterall it was the first time in history the horse out lasted the farmer.
