I use industrial chain & cable lube in the spray can.
Unscrew the bottom end of the cable, hold the top end up and put small bursts of lube in it till it comes out the bottom. If you can pull the drive cable out, clean it off, lube it and reinstall. Turn the tach head upside down and put a couple drops of lube in the drive socket. Motorcycle chain lube could work, too.
When the speedometer/tach needle no longer remains steady, it's time to lube.
