I remember fixing my 656 Dsl, had a simular problem. Off the top of my head (not positive) but I think the return line was plugging up at the tank connection. Some oring or something was breaking up in the pump and the debris would plug it at the tank connection point. I put a fuel filter on the line just before the tank and it never did it again. The only thing I wonder about is what came out of the pump?
