I agree the 424 is a very good tractor. I have a gas 1967 model with power steering. It has live hydraulics and a 2 stage clutch with a constant running pto. That may give you some insight into the problem. I am not sure what the banging noise is, but I'm sure that someone on this forum will be able to help. I have been monitoring this forum for several months and have learned quite a bit just reading the posts. I would think that a 424 in good shape with a loader should bring around $4,000 to $5,000 depending on the location.
