Don't panic if the studs come out of the tank, because unless you plan on removing the steering post and u-joint, you cant remove the tank with the studs in. Once you have the studs removed, you can remove the cotter pins and castle nuts. When you reinstall the gas tank, you can simply put the tank in place on the pads, turn in the studs finger tight, then double nut and tighten them up, then remove the double nuts, install the springs, castle nuts, and cotter pins.
