I don't think any of what you're talking about is deathly important. When I replaced my M head with a 400 head I think I just screwed a short piece of small pipe into the hole and left it sticking out in the open to vent under the valve cover, which is vented in a similar fashion. That's all been too many late nights ago though, I'll look tomorrow and post anything different. That motor is slowly going back together again now.
